FAQ

What training and licensure does Ronella hold?

Ronella Ellis is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), a state-issued license that requires a graduate degree in marriage and family therapy, thousands of supervised clinical hours, and passing both national and state licensing examinations. Licensure also requires ongoing continuing education to maintain. Ronella is currently licensed to practice therapy in Connecticut, Georgia, New York, and North Carolina.

Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Management and Organization from Spelman College, and a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University.

In addition to her clinical training, Ronella holds certifications and specialized training in birth education facilitation, birth and postpartum doula support, infant massage, African psychology, and applied astrology and clinical applications using tarot.

It is worth noting that the title “therapist” is a licensed designation in most states. Working with someone who holds an active state license means they are credentialed, regulated, and held accountable to a professional and ethical standard. If you have questions about Ronella’s licensure or want to verify her credentials, you are welcome to reach out directly.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?

All sessions are currently held virtually through a secure video platform. Virtual sessions allow for flexibility, privacy, and consistency, especially for clients who travel frequently, live abroad, or have busy schedules.

Many of my clients are high-functioning individuals, professionals, leaders, caregivers, couples, and families who are navigating burnout, life transitions, relationship challenges, identity questions, and major decisions. What is the difference between therapy and coaching?

Therapy focuses on mental health, emotional patterns, relationships, and healing. Online therapy is available to clients physically located in Connecticut, Georgia, New York, or North Carolina at the time of service. Coaching focuses on decision-making, leadership, personal growth, and life transitions, and is available to clients worldwide. Both services draw on the same frameworks and the same approach to understanding patterns. If you are not sure which one is the right fit based on your goals and location, we can talk through it during your consultation.

Where is Ronella licensed?

Ronella is currently licensed in Connecticut, Georgia, New York, and North Carolina.

Do you have to be in crisis to start therapy?

No. Many clients start therapy or coaching because they are in a period of transition, feeling burned out, trying to make a major decision, or noticing patterns in relationships or work that they want to change.

How often do we meet?

Most clients meet weekly or biweekly, depending on their goals and availability. We will decide on a schedule that makes sense for your situation.

How to get started?

The first step is to schedule a consultation, though it is not required. During the consultation, Ronella will discuss what you are looking for, what support you need, and whether this practice is a good fit. Many clients book directly without a consultation. The initial consultation is complimentary for the first 15 minutes. Consultations that extend beyond 15 minutes are billed at $50 for each additional 15-minute increment when the additional time is requested and agreed upon.

Can you work with clients outside of the U.S.?

Yes. Ronella works with clients both inside and outside of the United States through virtual sessions.

Therapy services are available to clients located in Connecticut, Georgia, New York, and North Carolina where Ronella is licensed to practice therapy.

Coaching services are available to clients worldwide, including U.S. clients outside of states where she is licensed to practice therapy. This includes clients living abroad. Coaching focuses on decision-making, relationships, leadership, personal growth, and life transitions, and does not require a mental health diagnosis.

If you are unsure whether therapy or coaching is the best fit based on your location and needs, this can be discussed during your consultation so we can determine the most appropriate service for you.

Is this an inclusive practice?

Absolutely. This is an affirming practice for all people. We welcome and provide culturally responsive care for LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples, people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, those navigating non-traditional, non-monogamy, polyamorous relationships, people of all religious, atheists, and spiritual backgrounds, individuals with disabilities, and anyone who has felt unseen or misunderstood in other therapeutic spaces. Whoever you are and however you show up, you belong here!

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice and missed appointments are subject to a $100 late-cancellation or no-show fee.

* Insurance participation and eligibility vary by plan, state, and service platform. Coverage must be verified before the first session.
